Closing of the course “Green Chemistry - Green Chemistry in Physics and Chemistry Teaching: a path to Sustainability”

On January 24th 2025, the closing session of the non-degree course “Green Chemistry – Química Verde no Ensino de Física e Química: uma via para a Sustentabilidade” took place at the Cine-Teatro Municipal de Nisa.

This course was part of the Living the Future Academy Program, supported by the University of Coimbra (UC), the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), and Câmara Municipal de Nisa. Coordinated by Prof. Mariette Pereira, the course involved the participation of teachers and researchers from the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, and Life Sciences of FCTUC, as well as students from Agrupamento de Escolas de Nisa, Escola Secundária Mouzinho da Silveira (Agrupamento de Escolas do Bonfim), and Escola Secundária de São Lourenço, both located in Portalegre.

The non-degree course included theoretical and practical sessions held at the three schools, along with oral presentations of research projects by the participating students.

These projects were presented during the closing session of the course, attended by the President of Câmara Municipal de Nisa, Dr. Idalina Trindade, and the UC Vice-Rector for Education and Attractiveness, Prof. Cristina Albuquerque.

Researcher Rafael T. Aroso was the winner of the 5th edition of the Research Seed Awards, in the UC Strategy Area of Natural Resources, Agrifood and Environment , with the project “PhotoBioSyn – Natural-based antibacterial bioplastics: a synergic and sustainable approach for surface photo-decontamination”.

The prize, valued at €20,000 and awarded by the University of Coimbra and Santander Universities, took place on April 9th 2024, in the Senate Room of the University of Coimbra

Os estudantes participantes das OQ+ terão a chance de se qualificar para 53ª Olimpíada Internacional de Química, e para as Olimpíadas Iberoamericanas de Química. Os estudantes mais jovens, participantes nas OQ Júnior, terão a oportunidade de integrar a representação nacional nas Olimpíadas de Ciência da União Europeia
