Closing of the course “Green Chemistry - Green Chemistry in Physics and Chemistry Teaching: a path to Sustainability”
On February 24, the closing session of the non-degree course “Green Chemistry in Physics and Chemistry Teaching: a path to sustainability” took place at the Cine-Teatro Municipal de Nisa, as part of the Living the Future Academy Program, with the support of the University of Coimbra (UC), the PRR and the Nisa City Council.
This training program, coordinated by Professor Mariette Pereira, involved the participation of teachers and researchers from FCTUC’s Chemistry, Physics and Life Sciences departments, as well as students from the 10th, 11th and 12th grades of the Nisa School Group, the Mouzinho da Silveira Secondary School, part of the Bonfim School Group, and the São Lourenço Secondary School, both in Portalegre.
The non-degree course involved theoretical and practical sessions, held at the three schools, as well as the oral presentation of research papers by the participating students. The work was presented at the closing session of the course, which was attended by the Mayor of Nisa, Dr. Idalina Trindade, and the Vice-Rector of the UC, responsible for Teaching and Attractiveness, Professor Cristina Albuquerque.
Teachers and students are grateful for the support of the Rectorate of the University of Coimbra and the Nisa City Council, as well as the collaboration of the teachers from the aforementioned schools and are looking forward to a second edition in the near future.

Researcher Rafael T. Aroso was the winner of the 5th edition of the Research Seed Awards, in the UC Strategy Area of Natural Resources, Agrifood and Environment , with the project “PhotoBioSyn – Natural-based antibacterial bioplastics: a synergic and sustainable approach for surface photo-decontamination”.
The prize, valued at €20,000 and awarded by the University of Coimbra and Santander Universities, took place on April 9th 2024, in the Senate Room of the University of Coimbra
